Preparation

To get the most out of Trek, each participant will want to prepare themselves.

Spiritual preparation will increase the opportunities for revelation during this activity. Elder David A. Bednar stated, "Most frequently, revelation comes in small increments over time and is granted according to our desire, worthiness, and preparation." As we pray morning and evening, read scriptures, and honor the Sabbath, we increase our worthiness and prepare ourselves to receive the inspiration from the Spirit. Improve your spirituality by following this helpful guide:

Spiritual Preparation Guide

Prepare early researching the name of the person you will walk for, so you can imagine their challenges as you participate in the trek. See the list of recommended names here.

Physical preparation will enhance the experience as well. It will be easier to feel the spirit and contribute to your trek family if your body is conditioned to handle some exertion and the summer heat. Begin now to train your body by walking in the heat and drinking a lot of water. Use the link below for some guidance on physical preparation.

Prepare Your Body!

Prepare your Wardrobe. Leaders and youth are encouraged to wear pioneer-style clothing. Doing so helps participants immerse themselves in the trek experience. It can also foster a sense of unity among the youth. Many items can be found in existing wardrobes or at secondhand stores. Please use the guide below to plan your pioneer-era attire.

What to pack. Having the right equipment (and not too much of it) will help trek participants be prepared for their adventure, and not be exhausted from carrying too much wieght throughout the journey. We have put together a packing checklist of items that each trekker should plan to bring with them. Please use the checklist below to put together your gear.
