Stalwart And Brave We Stand
While your children will be assigned families and a "Ma" and "Pa" on the trek, there are key things you can do to help your children prepare. Everything you need to help you with that task has been listed below, from a physical training schedule (the youth will have a better experience if they are physically ready), to how and what to pack. Links for shopping or patterns for making clothes have also been included for your convenience. Preparing as a family will share the experience and blessings experienced during Trek week. As with everything in the gospel, ask and information will be given.
All parents must complete the Parental Release, Contract, and Image Release form for any / all family members attending the Trek. This form may be obtained from your branch or ward Young Women's President.
How To Help Your Youth Prepare
Part of being a pioneer is being prepared. Suggestions of activity and distance have been broken down by month. We will be doing LOTS of walking. Please note that any charges for emergency personnel (ambulance, helicopter evacuation, hospital visits) will be paid for by the parents of the youth needing assistance, NOT the church. Hopefully this will motivate you to help your youth PREPARE and PREVENT.
Before the Trek
Besides building muscle, we need to build our wardrobe. You can do this any number of ways, but planning ahead is essential. Use breathable fabric like cotton. Stay away from polyesters and other man-made fabrics. Jeans also are heavy and hot. The right fabrics will help your child be more comfortable and feel more like a pioneer. PLEASE take our advice on the shoes.

During the Trek
What can you do while your child is away on the Trek? Like many of the parents of children in the 1800's, you can pray for them to be safe and to have spiritual experiences. These experiences and feelings will help to strengthen their testimonies of the truths which you have already shared with them. Truths such as that they are important, that they are needed, that they have been born to do something of great worth, and that they CAN do it.
After the Trek
Like any great victory, celebrate their homecoming! Ask questions. Let them share their stories and the feelings they had. Talk together about other members of your family who are or have been "pioneers" – people who blazed the trail – either by joining the church, in education, or in other meaningful ways. Every family has pioneers. Share and be proud of them together.
Additional Questions?
Still have questions? We have answers! Asking questions is part of the gospel and certainly part of Trek. Check out the FAQ link for the most commonly asked questions.
